Adam Sonderberg and Sam Dellaria have worked together for years, constructing rich and detailed mounds out of intended and random recorded segments.  Their project Dropp Ensemble focuses on culling these parts from as vast a reach as possible, employing musicians both local to their native Chicago, as well as those on the other side of the planet.

For their recent release on either/OAR, they invited me to contribute.  Though the session took place at least a year ago, I remember the night — it was perhaps a unique chance with the ensemble as they captured about 5 of us performing together.  Each other participant contributed individually.  From there, Adam and Sam spent a great deal of time critically dissecting and assembling all the pieces, creating multiple versions, and hosting listening sessions to get feedback from some of the participants.

All in all, I think the record turned out incredibly.  The low end is something I’ve never heard on disc before.  Really brutal.  Thanks to Dale at the label, this recording is available to the public, and the package is pretty exquisite as well.
