Happy birthday Jon, belatedly. I drove to Chicago today to attend a memorial for a very old friend who died unexpectedly a month or so ago. I got as far as the WI-IL border and the muffler went out on my car. I had no choice but to turn around get home as quickly and quietly as I could. I really regret that I didn't make it to this gathering, to listen, as you recommend above, and talk about missed communications over the course of 40 years of a friendship that fell away 15 years ago. So I second your remarks above. Don't miss an opportunity to talk and listen. Life can change very quickly.
