creative differences

There is something powerful and challenging about communicating a very clear, direct message.  Some people are very good at it, and get a lot of attention for it because their words and their work inspire people in very specific ways.  From the audience’s perspective, they always know what they’re getting.

There is also something powerful and challenging about creating a situation where interpretation and imagination are required by the audience.  Where what’s communicated isn’t so clear, but there is enough material to keep things very interesting, and though a general direction is apparent, the final intent is not necessarily clear.  From the audience’s perspective, this route involves some work, intellectual and possibly otherwise, but the recipient has the opportunity to take part in creating what they get.

Which way do you prefer?
