Recording of “The Whole” begins
This weekend I began the recording of my next project, titled, The Whole. This completely acoustic record was recorded in an old warehouse, without heat, over the course of three days during a Wisconsin winter. While this situation brought on some discomfort, it also helped move things along swiftly, not spending a lot of unnecessary time on anything.
While it has some ties to almost all my previous work, going back to 1997, overall, it is very different than any music I’ve done based on such a conglomeration of influences. However, that being said, the four pieces on the record are thematically symmetrical, and each of them share things with each other – both stylistically and conceptually, so the music sounds very unified. The past months have had many sleepless nights and late hours working on writing and arranging these pieces – these songs, actually, so it’s a relief to hear them having become ‘real.’ Some people will be very surprised by the music, but hopefully some people will enjoy it, too. I’m very happy with the results so far, and look forward to finishing up once the holidays are over. I’ll post more about it all then.
Happy holidays to all reading this, and thanks again for your interest in what’s happening here.

looking forward to hearing this acoustic warehouse sound.
what inspired you to move to a cold, empty warehouse in a wisconsin winter?

Nothing inspired it. It’s just the way it was, unfortunately. I may have to go back and redo a bunch now, too. And it’s even colder now, so it might have to wait until things warm up some. Hope to get this finished someday!
